Mollusc of the year (Germany)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The mollusc of the year has been proclaimed annually since 2003 by a board of trustees made up of representatives from scientific societies and institutions involved in mollusc research ( malacology ) in order to draw attention to the decline in these animals.

The selection of the mollusc of the year is based on the endangerment of the species or its habitat by humans. The effect of snails on many people ( disgust ) is also not insignificant , for this reason very conspicuous or interesting species are usually chosen. This also guarantees recognition for the zoological layperson .
