Sea bird of the year
With the Sea Bird of the Year campaign , the Jordsand association, founded in Hamburg for the protection of sea birds and nature, has been highlighting a sea or coastal bird species since 2014 in order to draw attention to the threat to sea birds and the maritime ecosystem.
background
At the beginning of the 20th century, the Jordsand Association was founded to reduce the overexploitation of the seabird colonies by egg collectors, the shooting of rare species, cleaning workers and the increasing tourism in the breeding and resting areas. He campaigned for the remaining stocks. Today's national parks, nature conservation and the world natural heritage serve to protect the stocks.
With a view to its centenary, the association uses this campaign to highlight the new threats that are redefining seabird protection today.
