Protozoa of the year
The single cell of the year is determined by the German Society for Protozoology .
In May 2007 the German Society for Protozoology voted a single cell of the year at a conference in Salzburg . With their choice, the scientists wanted to draw attention to the fact that the large group of unicellular organisms plays an important role in the earth's ecosystems .
In 2008 there was no single cell of the year.
