The trivial names are derived from the long, protruding stamens, which are reminiscent of spider legs. The home is South America .

description

A variety of spider flower

Vegetative characteristics

Tarenaya hassleriana is a perennial herbaceous plant that is cultivated as an annual plant and usually reaches heights of 80 to 100, rarely up to 150 centimeters. The plants develop basal several straight, slightly spined stems .

Generative characteristics

The flowering period extends from July to October. Many flowers stand together in terminal racemose inflorescences . The flowers are hermaphroditic. The flower colors of the varieties range from white to pink to red.

Occurrence

The distribution area is in South America in Bolivia , Paraguay , Brazil and Argentina . However, it occurs in the United States, Mexico and the Caribbean islands as a neophyte .

Systematics

The systematics of this family group is controversial. The great genus Cleome s. l. has been split into small genera since 2008, which partly has advantages due to its heterogeneity, partly leads to some very similar genera indistinguishable for laypeople, which is why it is widespread in the large genus Cleome s. l. is held. The genus Tarenaya Raf. consists of 33 species, including Tarenaya hassleriana and Tarenaya spinosa .

use

The varieties of the spider flower thrive as ornamental plants best in full sun on warm, water-permeable soils . They can be planted individually in sheltered locations, and in groups in places where there is a risk of wind.

sorts

There are several varieties that differ in their flower colors. In addition to Tarenaya hassleriana , Cleoserrata (Cleome) speciosa , which differs in the absence of stipular thorns (generic feature of this most primitive Cleomacea genus), but otherwise largely resembles Tarenaya hassleriana , is apparently cultivated more frequently . The variety 'Inncleosr', better known under the trademark 'SENORITA ROSALITA', also belongs to the genus Cleoserrata . Since it is sterile, the short stamens, which are not typical for the family, can also be a breeding-related degeneration. It is a hybrid of Cleome speciosa . This variety was named Bavarian Balcony Plant of the Year 2008 under the trademark 'FESCHE FANNY' .
