List of apple varieties |
The yellow noble apple (also golden noble , glass apple , slice apple , wax apple or lemon apple ) is an autumn apple variety .
This variety was found as a chance seedling in a garden in Downham (Norfolk) , England, around 1800 , and has been spreading since around 1820.
The apple was chosen by the Association of Horticultural Associations Saarland-Pfalz eV as the orchard variety of the year 2004.
fruit
The fruits are medium to large in size and flat-round. The fruits are ripe for picking from September. They are ready to eat immediately and last until January. The pulp is light yellow, juicy, tartaric to strongly acidic and has a high vitamin C content and only a low sugar content. The skin is thin, the base color is lemon yellow, as is the top color, which, however, can rarely be light orange. The calyx pit is flat, the stem pit is slightly rusted in bronze. The stem is short and fleshy.
Due to its acidity, the fruit is only partially suitable for fresh consumption, but is suitable for diabetics. It is used in particular for cooking and baking or as a cider apple .
tree
The tree is insensitive to frost and has strong growth. The shoots are long and bare in the lower half of the shoot, but have many sleeping eyes there. The tree forms large, globular crowns and can get very old. It does not tend to get old, which means that a tapering cut (see also under capping (tree) ) is necessary late . The flowering is late, long-lasting and insensitive to the weather and suitable as a pollen donor because it is diploid . The yields are high and regular.
