The conductivity test is a method of non-destructive material testing, especially of metals.

The purpose of this test method is to discover crystal structure defects and impurities that can undesirably change the workpiece in terms of its desired properties (hardness, elasticity, electrical conductivity ). To do this, the electrical or thermal conductivity is measured .

The electrical conductivity is formed from the reciprocal value of the specific resistance. In the case of metals, there is an almost linear relationship between thermal conductivity and electrical conductivity. Inclusions in the workpiece change the conductivity, as the mobility of electrons is hindered by crystal disturbances and grain boundaries as well as dissolved foreign matter. For pure metals such as B. Copper, the effect is particularly pronounced - even minor impurities in the form of dissolved substances reduce the conductivity significantly, see also electrolytic copper .
