List of apple varieties |
The Rote Herbstkalvill is a dessert fruit of the cultivated apple . The very old variety of unknown origin was already in 1565 as a real red apple in the princely pleasure garden in Stuttgart . It used to be grown very often in Central Europe, but has now become very rare.
The Rote Herbstkalvill is a pomological specialty. The apple has red flesh under the skin with an intense raspberry to strawberry-like aroma. Pressed apple juice is light red, dried apple slices are pink.
The tree is susceptible to diseases and pests, needs appropriate plant protection measures and needs good, deep soils and warm locations.
Since the core house is relatively large compared to the cores, some specimens can develop "rattle apples". When the fruit is shaken, the kernels rattle audibly.
