List of apple varieties

The Dorheimer Streifling is a very rare local variety of the cultivated apple .

history

The Dorheimer Streifling is a local variety from Wetterau and has been at home in Dorheim bei Friedberg for generations. The apple was first mentioned in 1949 by H. Schmidt in the magazine Das Gartenjahr . The variety has been considered lost since 1945, until in 1995 the NABU Friedberg group was able to track down a total of 8 remaining old trees using newspaper advertisements. The average age of the trees is estimated at 80 years. If you assume a maximum age of 80 to 100 years for optimally cared for apple trees, the urgency of finding and multiplying here is easy to understand. Young Dornheim Streifling trees are now also available in tree nurseries in the area. The variety was Hessische Lokalsorte 2009 .
