List of apple varieties |
The Ausbacher Rote is an old cultivar of the cultivated apple ( Malus domestica ), which is native to the area around Hohenroda in the Rhön . Other common names are Roter Ausbacher and Rotapfel .
description
The variety has also proven itself under less good growing conditions. It is undemanding and also thrives on shallow soils. Valleys with moist soils and drafty, cool altitudes are also suitable locations; the susceptibility to diseases and pests is low.
The trees are vigorous and form large, upright, later more broad crowns. After a construction cut, only a small maintenance cut is necessary.
The yield starts mid-late. The trees then bear plenty and bad harvests are very rare. The fruit is stormproof.
use
It was used as a high-quality commercial and must variety , although the taste properties are no longer sufficient from today's perspective.
The variety is probably a poor pollen donor , as triploid pollen is usually not suitable for fertilization.
Breeds and History
The origin is unknown, allegedly it was observed in the Ausbach district around 1870, traditions speak of a significantly higher age. The first evidence was found in Germany's fruit varieties (1905–1933). Here the red apple was recorded as the only local variety in Hesse under the number 310.
- In 2002 the Rhöner Apfelinitiative eV chose the lover variety for Apple of the Year in the Rhön.
- Choice of Ausbacher Roter as Hessian local variety of the year 2008 by the Hessen State Group of the Pomologen -verein eV
