The Swiss pants is a rare pear variety . It is a variant of the " Long green autumn pear " variety and has been known since the 17th century at the latest. The fruit is medium-sized and elongated with yellow, green and red vertical stripes. The striped appearance of the pear is considered to be the origin of the name Swiss trousers, as it is reminiscent of the uniform trousers of the Pontifical Swiss Guard.

The Swiss Association for the Promotion of Old Fruit Varieties , Fructus , named Schweizerhose as the Swiss Fruit Variety of 2011 .
