The term grass flower refers to a winter apple variety that is harvested in October. The name was used as early as 1864 by the pomologist Friedrich Jakob Dochnahl for an apple variety from ' Glan-Münchweiler '. The 'Grasblümchen' is an old regional variety of the southwest Palatinate from the area Höheinöd , Bann , Großbundenbach , which is now being reproduced again. The taste of the 'grass flower' is described as "moderately sweet, moderately aromatic" .
In 2006 the 'Grasblümchen' received the Palatinate Fruit Tree of the Year award . Another name for the variety is 'Roter Sickinger'.
Variety characteristics
The tree shows strong growth.
The fruit stalk is medium in length. The chalice is half-open. The fruit is medium-sized, slightly conical and asymmetrical, green-yellow, deeply flamed red, often completely reddened. The “ pulp ” is greenish-white and fine-celled. The taste is moderately sweet, moderately aromatic with little acidity . The shelf life lasts until January. The 'grass flower' is used as a table and economic apple .
