The Austrian Board of Trustees for Fisheries and Water Protection (ÖKF Fishlife), the Austrian Fisheries Association  (ÖFV), the state fisheries associations and state organizations of fisheries and the Federal Office for Water Management  (BAW, Scharfling) award the title Fish of the Year .

With this title one wants to draw attention to the endangerment of the fish fauna in Austria. The title has been awarded by the ÖKF since 2002 and together with the other organizations since 2012. Since 2014 (for 2015), nominations have been chosen by the specialist organizations through a vote of interested parties.
