Igstadt is a district of the Hessian capital Wiesbaden .
geography
The location of Igstadt extends over the eastern slope of the Waschbach valley ( 169 m to 211 m above sea level ). The district extends to the east over the Wickerbach to the vicinity of the local area of Medenbach and is largely unforested except for the slopes in the north between the Hockenberg ( 267.1 m ) and the Wickerbachtal. The agricultural areas are mainly used for arable farming.
The area around the nature reserve Wickerbachtal near Kloppenheim between Igstadt, Medenbach and Kloppenheim below the Hockenberger Mühle serves as a local recreation area.

history
Igstadt was in 1241 as Jegestat first mentioned in documents as Igstadter, including the village priest Arnoldus, as witnesses to legal transactions in neighboring communities.
The place, which was incorporated into Wiesbaden on April 1, 1928, has around 2100 inhabitants. The suburb is often referred to as "the gateway to the country ".
The 27 m high water tower erected in 1910 at the highest point in the town is Igstadt's landmark.

The town's coat of arms is the image of the old court seal, it shows a stylized J on a yellow background in the middle and an ear of wheat to the left.
Culture and sights
societies
The Turnverein Igstadt 1886 (TVI) is the largest club in the village and has 1048 members. The program includes table tennis, athletics, rehabilitation and back training, ski gymnastics, running, Nordic walking and handball. The handball department of the TVI had their greatest success so far in the final of the Hessen Championship in 2004. The A-youth of the year 86/87 had secured participation with the Oberliga championship. The first team is currently playing in the regional league. The first women's team is located in district class A. The home ground of the handball players of the TVI is the Wettiner Hall in the vocational school center in Wiesbaden.
Furthermore, there is the rifle club Wiesbaden-Igstadt 1965 in Igstadt. The rifle club offers the possibility of shooting sports in the disciplines of air rifles, air pistols and sports pistols. Since October 2014, the shooting club has also been able to shoot arrows. The arc track is 70 m long, so that all types of bows can be shot.
Notch
The first still verifiable "Galluskerb" was celebrated in Igstadt in 1867, and in the following years, with a few interruptions, repeated notches were held. There was no club at that time.
In 1975 the Igstadter Kerbegesellschaft was founded, the date of the notch was postponed from October to June and the notch was renamed to today's “Lindenkerb” on the occasion of the felling of a 150 year old linden tree.
In addition to the big Lindenkerb on the third weekend in June, the Igstadt notch society organizes a winter notch on the third Friday in January, participates every year with a hot counter at the Christmas market in Igstadt, takes part in the cultural days in Igstadt and otherwise organizes local and club life in Igstadt active with.

The place is connected with the Wiesbaden-Igstadt train station ( 50 ° 4 ′ 56 ″ N , 8 ° 19 ′ 32 ″ E ) to the Ländchesbahn , which connects the district with Wiesbaden Central Station and Niedernhausen im Taunus . Igstadt is also connected to the local traffic in Wiesbaden with the buses of ESWE Verkehr .
Due to the railway line, the motorway connections in Nordenstadt and Erbenheim and the direct connection to Bierstadt , Igstadt is very conveniently located in terms of transport.
education
Igstadt has a primary school with the Peter Rosegger School . It is attended by around 100 students and was expanded to include a modern extension between 2017 and 2018.
