history

The district of Wiesbaden was formed on April 1, 1886 as part of a regional reform in the province of Hessen-Nassau from the municipalities of the offices of Wiesbaden and Hochheim with the exception of the municipalities of Langenhain , Lorsbach and Marxheim . By then, the district had formed the western part of the Mainkreis, which was founded in 1867 .

The cities and communities bordering Wiesbaden took part in the rapid population growth of this city, combined with increasing industrialization, especially along the Rhine. As a result, Biebrich , Schierstein and Sonnenberg were incorporated into Wiesbaden on October 1, 1926 and were lost to the district.

On April 1, 1928, the district was dissolved. Bierstadt , Dotzheim , Erbenheim , Frauenstein , Heßloch , Igstadt , Kloppenheim , Rambach and Georgenborn were incorporated into Wiesbaden. The city of Hochheim am Main as well as all other communities in the district became part of the newly founded Main-Taunus district .
