Karl Josef Schlitt (born June 4, 1883 in Obertiefenbach , † October 30, 1960 in Wiesbaden ) was a Hessian politician ( CDU ) and a member of the Hessian state parliament .

Origin, education and profession

Joseph Schlitt was the son of master baker Karl Schlitt and his wife Maria, née Kilbinger , and grew up there at Hauptstrasse No. 261 in the Hessian community of Obertiefenbach, which at that time belonged to the Oberlahn district . Today the place is part of the municipality Beselich and belongs to the merged district Limburg-Weilburg . He belonged to the Catholic denomination. After attending elementary school in Obertiefenbach 1889-1897 and Gymnasium in Bonn studied Schlitt in Heidelberg and Marburg law . In 1910 he passed the trainee exam, on May 27, 1916 the court assessor exam. Then he was adjutant to the battery commander in Wiesbaden. He married Hildegard-born Nahmmacher on September 29, 1926 in Rostock .

After his work as district administrator, Schlitt carried out a commercial activity from 1934 to 1945. In 1945 he became co-owner and managing director of a commercial company.

politics

During the November Revolution, Schlitt was chairman of the Wiesbaden soldiers' council. From December 6, 1918 until the district was dissolved in 1928, Karl Josef Schlitt was district administrator for the district of Wiesbaden . The definitive appointment as district administrator is dated June 25, 1920. During the Allied occupation of the Rhineland , he was expelled from the Allied Rhineland Commission. From June 22nd, 1924, he was therefore a deputy district administrator in the Rotenburg district (Fulda) . On October 7, 1924, he was able to return to his office in Wiesbaden. After the circle was dissolved, it was put into temporary retirement on January 29, 1929 without any further use being planned. After coming to power in 1933, he was given final retirement.

Karl Josef Schlitt had been a member of the CDU since 1945 and was active there in many board positions. He was chairman of the CDU local association Wiesbaden (local association 5), 1957–1960 district chairman of the CDU Wiesbaden, 1947–1960 district chairman of the CDU Wiesbaden and state treasurer of the CDU Hessen .

In terms of local politics, he was active as a city councilor from July 2, 1946 to June 30, 1948 (from August 12, 1946 also head of the city council) and from July 8, 1948 to October 30, 1960 as an honorary city councilor in Wiesbaden .

From July 15, 1946 to November 30, 1946, Karl Josef Schlitt was a member of the state assembly of Greater Hesse that advised the constitution and was chairman of the constitutional committee. From November 17, 1949 (as a replacement for Josef Arndgen ) to November 30, 1950, he was also a member of the Hessian state parliament in the first electoral term.

Honors

In the Wiesbaden-Rheingauviertel district , Karl-Josef-Schlitt-Straße is named after him.
