Arthur Brückner

Arthur Brückner (born August 24, 1877 in Dorpat , † March 29, 1975 in Basel ) was a German ophthalmologist .

Life

Arthur Brückner was born in Dorpat (now Tartu ) in Estonia in 1877 . His father was the historian Alexander Brückner , his brother Eduard Brückner . After studying medicine , he became a professor in Königsberg from 1910 . After stations in Berlin and Jena , he was finally appointed as professor and head of the eye clinic in Basel in 1923 .

Brückner saw the first important task to be to initiate the internal reorganization of the clinic, as there was a considerable decrease in frequency in the entire sector. Brückner, a student of Ewald Hering , dealt intensively in his research work with sensory physiology coupled with general medicine . As a result of the effects of the First World War , he also dealt with reconstructive surgery on the eye. Brückner is of particular importance as the founder of the cytology of the aqueous humor . An additional research focus of Brückner was the modern dioptric .

Brückner retired in 1948 and had his successor in his student Friedrich Rintelen . He died in Basel in 1975.
