Georg Wagner (born October 10, 1876 in Obertiefenbach , † March 6, 1955 in Wiesbaden ) was a German elementary school teacher , non-fiction author and local researcher .

Origin, education and profession

Georg Wagner was born as the eldest of eight children of the farmer Georg Aloysius Wagner and his wife Katharina Brigitte, née Meilinger, in the Hessian community of Obertiefenbach, which at that time belonged to the Oberlahn district, and grew up there. Today the place is part of the municipality Beselich and belongs to the merged district Limburg-Weilburg . Wagner belonged to the Catholic denomination. After attending the primary school in Obertiefenbach from March 2, 1882 to 1890, he successfully attended a two-year teacher training college .

Wagner married Katharina nee Schlitt on November 27, 1901 in Obertiefenbach (sister of the later district administrator of Wiesbaden Karl Josef Schlitt ) and moved to Oberhattert , where he worked as a primary school teacher at the elementary school. In the 1920s he took a job as a primary school teacher at a Wiesbaden school and lived in Wiesbaden-Dotzheim until the end of his life. His tomb is on the Obertiefenbach cemetery.

From the 1920s until his death, Wagner wrote several extensive books on local history and local history articles in daily newspapers.

Appreciation

In the 1960s, the community of Obertiefenbach honored the special merits of its late historian and non-fiction author with the reassignment of the street name of the previous Neuer Weg in "Georg-Wagner-Straße".
