Breckenheim is a district of the Hessian capital Wiesbaden . It was incorporated into Wiesbaden on January 1, 1977 as part of the regional reform in Hesse and has around 3,400 inhabitants.

Breckenheim is close to the federal highway 3 , not far from the Wiesbadener Kreuz and borders on Langenhain , Wildsachsen and Wallau (districts of Hofheim am Taunus ) as well as the Wiesbaden districts of Medenbach , Igstadt and Nordenstadt . The Breckenheim – Wiesbaden railway branches off south of the Breckenheim tunnel at the Breckenheim junction from the Cologne – Rhine / Main high-speed line to the Wandersmann-Nord tunnel .

history

The first documentary mention of Brechenheim can be found in a donation from King Otto I to Count Gerung (land in the Königssundrandgau ( Königssondergau ) in Breckenheim, Wallau and Nordenstadt) on May 1st, 950 . The discovery of a Franconian burial ground from the 6th century near Nordenstadt suggests a Franconian settlement here in Breckenheim as well. According to Dr. phil. Hensche (homeland book "The former district of Wiesbaden") it is conceivable that this settlement got its name because of its clan leader "Brecko". “Heim” probably indicates a larger settlement (6th to 9th centuries).

In the 12th century, the Eppstein lordship owned the village of Breckenheim. On May 15, 1251, the Archbishop of Mainz donated goods in Breckenheim and Erbenheim to the cathedral monastery of Mainz. A miller named Engilbertus is mentioned in the deed of donation.

The Breckenheim church is first mentioned between 1280 and 1285 as a branch church of Wallau . In 1310 a separate parish was established. The pastor was provided by the Bleidenstadt monastery .

In 1492, parts of the Eppstein lordship, including the village of Breckenheim, were sold by Gottfried X to Landgrave Wilhelm III for 64,000 guilders . sold by Hessen .

During the Thirty Years War , the village, including the church, parish and school house, was badly devastated.

A schoolhouse was built from 1718 to 1724, which last served as the town hall until 1966 and was then demolished. The church was also built in its current form. After the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss , Breckenheim came to the Principality of Nassau-Usingen in 1803 . With the establishment of the Hochheim office on April 4, 1816, Breckenheim belonged to this ducal-Nassau office . With the annexation of Nassau by Prussia , Breckenheim became Prussian in 1866 and part of the Main District .

In 1845 the road to Igstadt was expanded as a road .

In 1928 Breckenheim received its first aqueduct . In 1936 a new school was built. From 1936 to 1939, the construction work on today's federal motorway 3 dragged through the district. The paving of the local roads began in 1953/55, sewers were laid in 1963–1965.

From 1965 a lot of construction activity began. First the town hall and fire station were built as a multi-purpose building, and a children's playground was then placed in front of the town hall. In 1968 the construction of a cemetery chapel began. 1971–1974 new building areas were developed, the sports and culture hall and the kindergarten were built in Brunnenstrasse. In 1974 the old village square was redesigned.

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , Breckenheim lost its communal independence. The place was spun off from the Main-Taunus district on January 1, 1977 and incorporated as a district into the state capital Wiesbaden. For Breckenheim, as for all previously independent municipalities, a local district with a local advisory board and local council was set up.

In 1994 the Prügelwiesen nature reserve near Wiesbaden in Breckenheim was designated east of the town .

Since 1998 there has been another major construction site in the area. The Cologne – Frankfurt ICE route with the Breckenheim tunnel was built parallel to the motorway .

In 2007 the new village square was completed after considerable initiative by the residents.
