Delkenheim is a district of the Hessian state capital Wiesbaden . It is located between Wiesbaden-Nordenstadt , Hochheim-Massenheim and Hochheim am Main .
The Delkenheim coat of arms (a cross with the upper bar split in a V-shape) became known in 1591.
It is a small place with around 5000 inhabitants, which is also home to some branches of industry. Among other things, Abbott has a large branch here. On January 1, 1977 Delkenheim was incorporated into Wiesbaden as part of the Hessian regional reform .
The Wickerbach divides Delkenheim into the old part and the newer "settlement". This part was created in the 1970s.
history
Delkenheim was first mentioned in 1204 (certificate from the knight Godefridus de Delchilnheim). However, it is assumed that there was a settlement at the beginning of the 6th century. The town charter Delkenheim received on 4 December 1320 King Louis the Bavarians .
Delkenheim's center was originally a knight's castle , but it was burned down in 1372 by Rheingau mercenaries recruited from the cities of Mainz and Frankfurt . It can be assumed that it was an act of revenge by the neighbors at the expense of the notorious Delkenheim robber barons. But even later, Delkenheim was repeatedly attacked.
The quality of life of the citizens improved increasingly after the end of the robber barons. In 1655 the first schoolmaster (Kilian Mohr) was hired, which enabled the children to take lessons in the village. Under the Landgrave Ernst Ludwig von Eppstein , agriculture, viticulture and cattle breeding were further developed. On March 15, 1773 the foundation stone for the new rectory was laid. It was not until 1959 that Delkenheim received water pipes .
Delkenheim as a district
In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , Delkenheim lost its communal independence. The place was spun off from the Main-Taunus district on January 1, 1977 and incorporated as a district into the state capital Wiesbaden. For Delkenheim, as for all previously independent municipalities, a local district with a local advisory board and a local councilor was set up.
In 1998, during an excavation at Landwehrstrasse 25, the 1,300-year-old skeleton “Delki” was discovered, which can now be viewed in the local history museum.

coat of arms
The municipality of Delkenheim in the Main-Taunus-Kreis received a coat of arms with the following blazon from the Hessian Minister of the Interior on October 5, 1960 : A black placemark in silver in the form of a cross, the upper bar of which is split in a V-shape.
Attractions
There are some beautiful half-timbered houses in the old town center . The Strauss tavern “Zur Mühle” deserves a special mention . The property has been lovingly renovated and refurbished. The Evangelical Church Delkenheim, the so-called Ländchesdom (architect Ludwig Hofmann, laying of the foundation stone August 26, 1893, inauguration September 12, 1894, renovation 1952, new bronze bell 1955, exterior renovation 1968), which replaced the dilapidated old church at the time, is worth seeing.
The Mechtildshausen domain, first mentioned in a document in the 12th century, also belongs to Delkenheim . It belongs to the state of Hesse and today houses the Wiesbaden youth workshop and a court restaurant.
Culture
The "Delkenheim Theater Group" is known far beyond the local borders. She performs two plays every year, a boulevard play in spring and a Christmas fairy tale in the run-up to Christmas. The audience is made up of all generations. The performances take place in the Delkenheimer Bürgerhaus (as of 2006).
Every year on a weekend in mid-September, the Delkenheimer Curb takes place in the community center and on the fairground below the community center.
The club life in Delkenheim includes: the Turnverein TV Delkenheim 1902 e. V., the football club FV 1949 Delkenheim, the cycling club RC 1925 Delkenheim eV, the tennis club and the golf club Main-Taunus. The choral societies include the Harmonie 1853 Delkenheim choir and the MGV 1889 Eintracht Delkenheim.
Environment / traffic
The Delkenheim population suffers from the effects of the high volume of traffic at Frankfurt Airport , as well as the ICE route, the Wiesbaden Air Base and the A 66 and A 3 motorways . The noise pollution is particularly high on Landesstraße 3028 due to the high volume of trucks. A noise protection wall was erected here in 2011, which, however, only protects part of the adjacent residential area due to lack of money. Regarding the aircraft noise situation in Delkenheim, the noise from overflying aircraft is measured at irregular intervals as required using a portable noise measuring station.
