Marxheim is a district of Hofheim am Taunus in the Main-Taunus district in southern Hesse . The location has grown together with the core town of Hofheim and the border between the two is no longer recognizable in the cityscape.

Geographical location

The Marxheim district extends over 776.4 hectares from the Bundesautobahn 66 in the south, where it has its lowest point at the Weilbach service station (west side) on Kastengrundgraben at 121 meters, over 5 kilometers to the highest point in the north at 315 meters on state road L 3018 on the edge of the forest east of the 326 meter high Bahnholz , near the local Langenhainer Aussiedlerhöfe . The height of the local development ranges from 141 meters (southern Rheingaustraße / Eddersheimer Straße) to 209 meters at the edge of the forest on the upper Schloßstraße with the Zum Guten Hirten monastery .

history

Former vicarage in Eichstrasse
Catholic parish church of St. George

To the east of Marxheim, a Roman military camp (referred to as Hofheim III ) was found in 2006 by geomagnetic prospection ; Part of the Roman settlements around today's Hofheim.

In 1191 Marxheim, at that time still Marbodesheim , was mentioned in a document, later the spellings Marpsheim and 1366 Marpisheim are documented. Marxheim's church and towers are mentioned in 1366.

For centuries, Marxheim was an Electoral Mainz area and at the time of the Duchy of Nassau belonged to the Hochheim district . The Catholic parish church of St. Georg in the old town center of Marxheim was built from 1843 to 1845.

In 1938 Marxheim was incorporated into Hofheim. This makes Marxheim the oldest part of today's district town in the Main-Taunus district.
