The landscape protection area Stadt Wiesbaden is a landscape protection area that covers most of the undeveloped area of ​​the city of Wiesbaden . With an area of ​​12,858 hectares , it covers approximately 62.7% of the city area and is one of the largest landscape protection areas in Hesse . The landscape protection area was established on October 12, 2010. It encompasses various natural areas such as the Main-Taunus foreland , the Wiesbaden Bay, parts of the Voraunus , the Rheingau and the Lower Main Plain . In the north of the urban area, the protected area overlaps with the Rhine-Taunus Nature Park . Within the protected area there are seven nature reserves and the FFH areas beech forests north of Wiesbaden , Rabengrund , Goldsteintal and Rettbergsaue .

Official ordinance for the protected area

According to the conservation area statutes and the city of Wiesbaden ordinance from 2010, the conservation area has the following purposes:

  • the sustainable protection and restoration of the cultural landscape characterized by agricultural and forestry use because of the diversity, character and beauty of the landscape, because of its special cultural-historical importance and for the protection of the natural balance;
  • the preservation of the large contiguous forest areas as a habitat for animals and plants, for resource protection and landscape-related recreation;
  • the protection of rivers and their floodplains because of their special importance for the efficiency and functionality of the natural balance and for the biotope network ;
  • the maintenance, development and restoration of the efficiency and functionality of the ecosystem by protecting the climate, soil, water and air;
  • the safeguarding and development of the diversity, the uniqueness and the beauty of the landscape and the preservation of the landscape as an undisturbed and freely accessible experience space for recreation that is bound up with the landscape and open spaces;
  • the preservation and restoration of the near-natural, species-rich habitats that shape the cultural landscape, in particular grove and beech forests and other deciduous and mixed deciduous forests , wet grasslands, sedge reeds and reed beds as well as grasslands , orchards, paths and watercourses with their accompanying floodplains, including native fauna;
  • the preservation and conservation development of parts of the landscape with special cultural and historical importance such as garden, soil and cultural monuments and landscape-defining terrain and forms of use ( ravines , terraces , orchards );
  • the maintenance and development of biotope network structures.
