Keramag / Falkenberg is a district of the city of Flörsheim am Main in the Main-Taunus district in southern Hesse .

Geographical location

Keramag / Falkenberg district is located in the western district of Flörsheimer core city. The development of the district is bounded in the west by the city limits to Hochheim am Main , in the north by the state road L 3028, which connects Hochheim with Flörsheim, in the east by Wickerbach and in the south by the Taunus railway . The place stretches on a slope from the Lower Maine Plain to the northwest up the eastern roof of the Falkenberg , which represents the eastern end of the terrain on which the Hochheim vineyards are located.

history

The Keramag / Falkenberg district includes a number of mills on the Wickerbach, which have been known since the 16th century at the latest. There were also quarries nearby, from whose stones the Flörsheimer houses were built. The actual history of the district began in 1912, when the Diamant Steingutwerke from Frankfurt acquired 13  hectares of land between the railway line and Main and built a factory here. The factory has been called Keramag since 1917 . At the same time, a settlement for the workers employed there was built in front of the factory gate. The district expanded significantly after the Second World War , when building land was designated here for many refugees and displaced persons . From the street names of the district one can deduce their origin: Sudetenland , Silesia and East Prussia . In 1982, Keramag closed the Flörsheim site. The company premises were converted into an industrial park. Since then, the housing estate has been expanded, primarily through the construction of private homes.

For the district of Keramag / Falkenberg as well as for the districts of Wicker and Weilbach , which were independent communities until the end of 1971, a local district was set up and a local advisory board was elected. The local district includes the residential areas Keramag, Falkenberg, Taubertsmühle, Hopfenmühle, Wiesenmühle, Obermühle and Ziegelhütte. The district thus also includes the southern part of Flörsheimer Schweiz .

The lime kilns on the bridge over the Landesstraße over the Wickerbach are also worth seeing. The aboveground vault structures from the 18th and 19th centuries are of technical and historical importance as the industrial nucleus of Keramag.

traffic

The district is opened up for regional traffic through the L 3028 state road. Although there is a railway line through the town, there is no railway station.
