Kiedricher Sandgrub
The Sandgrub is a Rheingau vineyard south and south-east of Kiedrich in the Rheingau . It belongs to the major Heiligenstock area .
Name origin
In the Kiedricher Sandgrub sand was once extracted for construction purposes. The vineyard area is 124 hectares , but only 44 hectares are planted with vines. It also extends into the Eltville district , where only the name Kiedricher Sandgrub is permitted.
Vineyard
The slope is inclined between 10 and 40 percent and thus receives a lot of sunlight. Due to the size of the location, the soils are very inhomogeneous and mostly consist of deep loess and loess loam as well as gravel and the eponymous sands, which ensure the necessary soil permeability.
Wine characteristics
The loess loam soils with their deep layers of clay give the wines from the Kiedricher Sandgrub dense and earthy aromas. The tertiary limes produce fine Rieslings with an elegant acidity.
