Massenheim Palace Gardens
The mass Heimer castle garden is a Rheingau vineyard in the district Massenheim the city Hochheim am Main and belongs to Großlage Daubhaus in the wine-growing region Rheingau .
Naming
In 1980 the location previously known as Sonnengarten had to be renamed Schlossgarten for legal reasons . The naming took place after the ?? Massenheim Castle , a castle-like mansion built in the Baroque style .
Vineyard
The 20 hectare, but only planted on a good four hectares of vineyards surrounds the Massenheim urban development in the west and south and occupies the south-west facing hillside over the Wickerbach for a distance of one kilometer . Almost exclusively individual plots in the south-eastern half of the palace gardens are planted. The soil consists of sandy, clayey loam . On the upper slope, the vines grow on sandy-gravelly, lime-free sediments of an Ice Age main terrace, on the lower slope they stand on carbonate-rich clay marl (Cyrene marl) from the time of the Oligocene .
Wine characteristics
The wines that come here have elegant and fine fruit and a fine fruity acidity.
Viticulture in Massenheim
In earlier centuries, viticulture was more widespread in the Rheingau than it is today, and some of it extended into the Taunus . In the meantime, there are no more vineyards in places like Igstadt , Wallau or Diedenbergen , only the names of the winnings and streets (e.g.? Am Weinberg ?) Remind you of this.
