Gensungen (large municipality)

The community of Gensungen was a short-term large community in the northern Hessian district of Melsungen .

It was founded in the course of the regional reform in Hesse on February 1, 1971 by the previously independent municipalities of Gensungen , Hesserode and Heßlar . On December 31, 1971, the municipality of Beuern and on April 1, 1972 Melgershausen joined the municipality of Gensungen.

At the beginning it comprised an area of ​​1,531.31 hectares (ha), which was inhabited and worked by approx. 3500 people. With the incorporation of Beuern the area grew to 2578.05 ha and the population to around 3800, with the incorporation of Melgershausen to 3537.65 ha with 4200 inhabitants.

On January 1, 1974, the community of Gensungen was incorporated into the city of Felsberg together with the community of Brunslar .
