Mftrace is an open source software for creating outline fonts ( e.g. Type1 or TrueType ) based on Metafont fonts.
Mftrace converts Metafont characters ( glyphs ) into high-resolution raster graphics and generates vector graphics again through vectorization - this time, for example, in TrueType format. The seemingly cumbersome process is necessary because Metafont fonts are mathematically described differently than outline fonts. While a brush is drawn in Metafont that creates the glyphs, the outline of the glyph is described in outline fonts.
