Peter Barthelmey

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Peter Barthelmey (* 1945 , † 22 December 2019 in Marburg ) was a German Bundesliga - handball player and coach , which was also used in the national team.

Barthelmey grew up in Fritzlar in the north of Hesse , graduated from the König-Heinrich-Schule there in 1964 and then began studying to become a grammar school teacher at the Philipps University in Marburg . After completing his studies, he became a grammar school teacher for English and sports in Marburg, most recently as a senior student councilor from 1981 .

Barthelmey was gifted athletic versatile and won in 1964 with Joerg Hein and Gernot Friese in Berlin's Olympiastadion , the German University Championships in Mannschafts- pentathlon of Athletics . However, his main interest was handball . He joined TV Hüttenberg , with whom he was promoted to the then still double-track Bundesliga in 1972/73 under coach Rudolf Spengler .

During the 1977/78 season he succeeded Burkhart Prinz as player- coach at TSV Jahn Gensungen , whom he led to promotion to the Bundesliga. Although he had initially been offered the coaching position for the following season, he was replaced by Burkhart Prinz again in May 1978, which also came as a surprise to the team. In the 1979/80 season he was the successor to Rudolf Spengler, coach at TV Hüttenberg and reached fourth place in the Bundesliga with the team. In the next season, however, Hüttenberg suffered relegation problems and Barthelmey was replaced as player- coach by Rudolf Spengler's son Horst Spengler , captain of the 1978 German world championship team.

As a result, Barthelmey devoted himself more and more to tennis , which his then wife Inge, née. Kleinlogel, also a high school teacher, had been closely connected since her early youth. After a long and serious illness, he died on December 22, 2019 in Marburg.
