PGV Austria Trunk

The PGV Austria Trunk (PGV) is an Austrian print media distribution based in Anif in Salzburg . The company, which was founded in 1947 and was known as Press Großvertrieb Salzburg until 2012 , is owned by the German MELO Group and, alongside Morawa, is one of the two largest print media distributors in Austria.

The company was founded in 1947 by Hermann Waldbaur as Waldbaur press sales in Vienna. In the same year the company headquarters was relocated from Vienna to Salzburg. In the following 15 years the company grew and the German publisher Franz Burda acquired its first shares. After Hermann Waldbaur's death, his company shares passed to the Burda family in 1977. The company name was changed to Pressegrossvertrieb Salzburg .

In 2004 the company was taken over by the Swiss Valora holding company.

In 2012 the Trunk group (since 2015: MELO Group) bought the shares in PGV from Valora - the company name of the GmbH was changed to PGV Austria Trunk . In the same year a joint logistics company was founded with Morawa under the name cargoe .

After competitor Morawa withdrew from press sales, PGV took over this task at the turn of the year 2018/2019.

Company details

At the time of the takeover by Valora in 2004, the company had an annual turnover of around 100 million euros with 220 employees. The sales range at that time comprised 2,700 titles from 170 publishers. In addition, there are holdings in train station and airport bookshops. In contrast to Morawa, which is mainly represented with Austrian titles, PGV's range mainly includes international titles from German-speaking countries. The main sales drivers are magazines .

As of 2018, the company supplies 9,000 dealers with 3,000 different magazines. Annual sales of around 100 million euros are at the same level as in 2004.
