Heinz Dieter Arzberger (born August 27, 1972 in Wolfsberg ) is a former Austrian football player in the position of goalkeeper . He is currently the goalkeeping coach at FC Liefering .

Career as a player

Heinz Arzberger began his career at the sports club in St. Michael im Lavanttal, a cadastral community of the city of Wolfsberg, and later switched to Wolfsberger AC. With the Carinthians he already played in the 2nd division in the 1990/91 season, but at that time only held the position of the second goalkeeper and had to leave the league with his team after one year of play. Due to his good performance in the Regionalliga Mitte , he was finally brought to Graz in the summer of 1994 , where he made his debut in the Austrian Bundesliga on November 4, 1995 under coach Ivica Osim (from the 83rd minute for the first- Keeper Roland Goriupp). Arzberger was unable to prevail against the aforementioned rival Roland Goriupp and was awarded to the second division in Gerasdorf in 1997 . In the fall of 1997 he moved to local rivals VSE St. Pölten together with Gerasdorf coach Kurt Garger . In the Lower Austrian capital, he developed into a one-goal goalie and also attracted clubs from the Bundesliga with his performance.

On July 1, 1999, the 185 centimeter tall goalkeeper moved to SV Austria Salzburg . There he was assigned the role of substitute goalie behind Szabolcs Sáfár by coach Hans Krankl . It was only after Sáfár left to Spartak Moscow that Heinz Arzberger gradually grew to become the standard goalkeeper at Austria Salzburg and was able to make his debut in the Austrian national team on May 25, 2004 under the current team boss Krankl , when he had a goalless draw against Russia in the 90 Minute was substituted on. This was his only use in the national team.

With the takeover of Salzburg Sport AG by Red Bull GmbH , the installation of Kurt Jara as a new coach and the engagement of his dream player Alexander Manninger, Arzberger moved back into the second tier behind the Salzburg man who had returned from Italy at the beginning of the 2005/06 season . Due to an injury to Manninger in autumn, Arzberger was given another chance to prove his skills and became the standard goalie for the rest of the autumn season. After Manninger's recovery, Jara designated him as a single goal man again. In the autumn 2006 season, Arzberger came under Jara's successors only alternating with Ramazan Özcan in the club's amateur team. In the 2008/09 season he played 13 championship games in the spring, after Timo Ochs and then Eddie Gustafsson were injured. At the beginning of the 2009/10 season he was the substitute goalkeeper for Eddie Gustafsson. On April 18, 2010, he replaced the seriously injured Gustafsson (broken tibia and fibula) in the game against LASK Linz from the break. He guarded the goal of FC Red Bull Salzburg until the end of the championship and won the championship title with the team. After this season, Heinz ended his professional goalkeeping career. From the 2010/11 season he was a substitute goalie for Salzburg's second team in the Regionalliga West on the bench.

After the end of his active career, he became a goalkeeper coach at FC Liefering . In the 2014/15 season he temporarily replaced the injured goalkeeper coach Herbert Ilsanker in the first team at FC Red Bull Salzburg .
