Kurt Garger (born September 15, 1960 in Strem , Burgenland ) is a former Austrian soccer player who played as a defender , was active as a soccer coach and is currently active as a sports director and TV presenter .

Career

Kurt Garger spent his youth at SV Güssing until 1979 , from where he moved to SK Rapid Vienna . He stayed there until 1989 and played 254 league games, 36 cup games and 38 international games for the club. In 1994 he returned to Rapid for one season. After four championship titles and five successes in the cup, he moved to Innsbruck to FC Tirol , with whom he won two championship titles and won the cup once. The next stop was SV Austria Salzburg , where he was able to achieve a championship title. The highlights of his playing career were the two European Cup finals (1985 European Cup Winners' Cup with Rapid and 1994 UEFA Cup Final with SV Austria Salzburg). He let his active career as a player-coach at SV Gerasdorf end. Despite his considerable collection of titles, he only played once, in 1991, for the Austrian national team.

After his active time he became a coach at various Austrian clubs (SV Gerasdorf, Admira / Wacker , Vienna , SC Eisenstadt , SC-ESV Parndorf 1919 , TSV Hartberg ), as well as in Germany ( FSV Frankfurt ) and in Slovakia ( DAC Dunajská Streda ) . From 2012 to 2016 he was the sports director at Vienna , where he also took on the coaching position in the 2013/14 season. After a season at SV Stripfing , he moved to the Chinese second division club Yunnan Flying Tigers FC in 2017
