Szabolcs Sáfár [ ˈsɒboltʃ ˈʃaːfaːr ] (born August 20, 1974 in Budapest ) is an Austrian - Hungarian football player . The goalkeeper has been under contract with SK Miet-Tech Wullersdorf since 2017 .

Career

The goalkeeper Sáfár began his career with Budapesti Vasas in his native Hungary. His first assignment abroad was SV Austria Salzburg , to which he moved in 1997. During his stay in Salzburg , the Hungarian also received Austrian citizenship. Sáfár received an offer from the German club Borussia Mönchengladbach because of strong performances in the Salzburg dress , but Sáfár injured himself with a saved penalty a few days before he was supposed to sign the contract. So the Gladbachers withdrew the offer.

In the summer of 2003, Sáfár went to Spartak Moscow in Russia on a free transfer . After six months as a reservist, Sáfár came back to Austria. From December 2003 he played for FK Austria Wien , where he initially only had a "fixed body" in cup games as a substitute goalkeeper behind Joey Didulica . After Didulica's departure in 2006, Szabolcs Sáfár was number one in Austria's goal for a long time.

In 2009/2010 Sáfár had to fight repeatedly with injuries and was replaced by Robert Almer and, after an injury from Almers, above all by Heinz Lindner . In the following season, Lindner first established himself as a regular goalkeeper, and Sáfár only came to a few missions. In the last rounds of the 2010/2011 season, Austria coach Karl Daxbacher Sáfár started again after Lindner's poor performance, so that the Hungarian-born celebrated his 300th league game in the top Austrian division on May 14, 2011 in the home game against Wacker Innsbruck could.

For the 2011/2012 season, however, he moved to Innsbruck, to Wacker, after the goalkeeper there Pascal Grünwald had migrated to Austria. At the end of the 2014 season, Sáfár left Innsbruck because they wanted to lower the average age and save salaries due to relegation to the first division . As a replacement, the Innsbruck team brought back Pascal Grünwald who had emigrated.

Sáfár moved to the Regionalliga Ost for SC Ritzing for the 2014/2015 season . Since summer 2015, he has been in charge of the U-15, U-16 and U-18 academy teams of FK Austria Wien and the goalkeepers of SC Ritzing as a goalkeeping coach .
