U-NII

U-NII stands for U nlicensed N ational I nformation I nfrastructure . It is the US designation for the license-free frequency band in the 5 GHz range.

This range is divided into several sub-bands of 100 MHz each:

  • 5.15-5.25 GHz (U-NII-1)
  • 5.25-5.35 GHz (U-NII-2A)
  • 5.470-5.725 GHz (U-NII-2C)
  • 5.725-5.825 GHz (U-NII-3)
  • 5.85-5.925 GHz (U-NII-4)

Probably the best known user of the U-NII band is the WLAN standard 802.11a or 802.11h .
