Peter Koncilia (born July 22, 1949 in Klagenfurt ) is a former Austrian football player .
Sports biography
Since the beginning of his career, the Carinthian has been in step with his older brother Friedl , with one exception: He did not move to WSG Swarovski Wattens until the summer of 1970. In a national league game with Klagenfurt Austria at Wiener Austria, he was sent off the field for his Brother guard the gate. After he was used sporadically in the 1970/71 season in Wattens, the merger with FC Wacker followed . He was not used once in the giant squad in the 1971/72 season . After that he was able to assert himself more and more and played his way into the national team in the 1974/75 season through consistently good performances .
In the years 74/75 and 75/76 he was the most dangerous midfielder in Austria with 15 and 13 goals respectively . But just at the point when he won a regular place in the team, a long series of injuries began. In his third international match he suffered a muscle tear. After a successful comeback in the championship, he came three times as a substitute for team honors. In the summer of 1977 he had to undergo a muscle operation. In the fall, he again suffered a ruptured muscle and had to undergo meniscus surgery. The train to the World Cup in Argentina left without him because of these many injuries. But he fought his way back.
At the beginning of the 1978/79 season he was again a fixture in the Innsbruck team. Due to the departure of some key players, he was repeatedly used as an all-rounder in different positions. Sometimes as a center forward , but also as a sweeper and in his traditional position in midfield. He also played his way back into the extended team squad, but was not to be used again. After the team got deeper and deeper into the relegation battle, the differences within the team got bigger and bigger. The resignation of President Steinlechner also caused unrest on the board of the association. His successor, Rudolf Sams, knew nothing better to do than throw Friedl and Peter Koncilia (captain of the team) out of the squad as supposed troublemakers in the team. Both were accused, among other things, of looking around for new clubs. What is common nowadays has been interpreted as behavior that is harmful to the association. By the 24th round Peter Koncilia had already scored 13 goals and remained the most successful Tyrolean shooter this season.
As a result, the Koncilias should train with the U21 team. For Peter Koncilia, however, this was immediately unnecessary - he injured himself while waterskiing. At the beginning of the 1979/80 season he moved to Greece to OFI Crete . He spent a successful year there and was the crowd favorite on the holiday island. In the late autumn of 1980 he returned to Innsbruck for a short guest appearance at the second division SPG Raika Innsbruck . At the end of his active career, he moved to the US indoor league for the Kansas City Comets . Back at home again, he built up a professional existence in the fashion industry, where he is still active today. In the Constantini era he held the post of sporting director at FC Tirol twice.
