Teresa Iżewska

Teresa Iżewska (born April 8, 1933 in Warsaw , † August 26, 1982 in Danzig ) was a Polish actress.

Teresa Iżewska studied chemistry at the University of Warsaw in 1952/1953 and then received acting lessons at the State Drama School PWST in Warsaw. She completed her acting studies in 1957. As an acting student, she played in her most famous film. Andrzej Wajda had entrusted her with the female lead in his legendary film about the Warsaw Uprising The Canal in 1956 . For this film, she was even nominated in Great Britain for a British Film Academy Award for the most promising newcomer category. After graduating in 1958, she got an engagement at the Teatr Dramatyczny in Wrocław . She stayed in Wrocław until 1963. In 1964 she moved to the Teatr Wybrzeże in Gdansk, where she was part of the ensemble until her untimely death in 1982. When she moved to Gdansk, she mainly worked as a theater actress.
