Claudio Gentile (born September 27, 1953 in Tripoli , Libya ) is a former Italian football player and coach .

Career

As a player

Claudio Gentile's career began in the youth department of Varese FC . In the 1971-72 season he played in Arona in the Series D . For the following season he returned to Varese.

When he moved to Juventus Turin in 1973 , he was already a seasoned player in his position as left or right full- back. For years he was known for his level-headed but consistent man marking . The successes he achieved with the Turin club were correspondingly great . By the time he left Juventus in 1984, he had worn the white and black jersey a total of 414 times. For the 1984/85 season he moved to Fiorentina , for which he played three years. In 1987 he went to Piacenza Calcio .
