Alessandro "Spillo" Altobelli (born November 28, 1955 in Sonnino (LT) , Italy ) is a former Italian football player . Because of his wiry and slim build, the Tifosi nicknamed him "Spillo", which means "needle" in German.

Career

In the club

The center forward Altobelli began his professional career in 1974 with Brescia Calcio and was after his move to Inter Milan in 1977 to one of the big stars of this team until 1988. He then let his career end with a season at Juventus Turin and a season at Brescia Calcio.

For Inter he played 466 games and scored 209 goals (128 goals in 317 Serie A games). This makes him the club's most successful goalscorer after Giuseppe Meazza . In the Italian Cup competition and in the European Cup is Altobelli scorer of the Nerazzurri.

In the national team

He played for Italy's national football team at the 1980 European Football Championship , was world champion at the 1982 World Cup in Spain , scoring 3-0 in the 3-1 final win against Germany, and scored four of five Italian goals (the fifth being Goal was an own goal by South Korea ) at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico . He ended his international career at the 1988 European Football Championship in Germany .
