Daniele Massaro (born May 23, 1961 in Monza ) is a former Italian football player .
Career
Daniele Massaro began his professional career in 1979 with his hometown club AC Monza Brianza in the series B . After moving to Serie A club Fiorentina in 1981, national coach Enzo Bearzot appointed the young attacker to the Italian national soccer team and to the squad for the 1982 World Cup in Spain , where Italy became world champions. However, he was not used at this World Cup.
In 1986 Massaro moved from Florence to AC Milan . Here he played until 1995 with a one-year break in 1988 when he was loaned to AS Roma . With Milan he celebrated his greatest successes. He won the UEFA Champions League twice under Arrigo Sacchi and Fabio Capello , the first time on May 23, 1990 in Vienna under the then title of the European Cup . At the final of the UEFA Champions League he scored the first two goals on May 18, 1994 in the Athens Olympic Stadium in a 4-0 win against FC Barcelona .
His great performances in the 1993/94 season convinced national coach Arrigo Sacchi , so that he called him back to the national team for the 1994 World Cup in the USA . At this World Cup tournament he surprisingly became a regular and played as Roberto Baggio's strike partner in the final against Brazil , where Massaro missed his penalty (as did Roberto Baggio and Franco Baresi ) and Italy lost the final.
In 1995 he left Italy for Japan , where he finished his career in 1996 with Club Shimizu S-Pulse .
