Oleksandr Anatolijowytsch Sawarow ( Ukrainian Олександр Анатолійович Заваров ; Russian Александр Анатольевич Заваров / Alexander Anatolyevich Sawarow ) also known by the English spelling Aleksandr Zavarov ; * April 20, 1961 in Lugansk ( Ukrainian SSR ) is a former Soviet or Ukrainian football player and current coach .

Career

Sawarow played for the Zarya Voroshilovgrad (1977-1979, 1982, today Zorya Luhansk), SKA Rostov (1980-1981), and Dynamo Kiev (1983-1988). With Kiev he won the 1986 European Cup Winners' Cup . Zavarov played 41 times for the Soviet national football team and scored six goals.

He finished his career at Juventus Turin (1989-1991) and AS Nancy Lorraine (1991-1995).

Sawarow was coach of FC Wil in August 2003 , but since he did not have the UEFA Pro license, he was head of sports for a year. In 2004 he coached the Kazakh club FK Astana and in 2005 the Ukrainian club Metalist Kharkiv . In 2006 he was the head coach of the Ukrainian club Arsenal Kiev .
