Player career
society
Between 1968 and 1972 Gritter was in the squad of the Dutch amateur club Asser CV . One of his greatest successes with this club was his entry into the amateur cup final in 1971/72, which they lost to Black and White '28 Rotterdam . Professional clubs first noticed the striker through good performances and many goals. So it happened that Gritter signed with FC Groningen in May 1972 and made his debut in the Eredivisie on August 13, 1972 in the home game against PSV Eindhoven . Gritter immediately prevailed in his first season in 1972/73 and scored twelve goals in 33 games in his first year as a professional. He was the club's top scorer. In the following year Groningen played for relegation, but missed it and had to relegate to the Eerste Divisie . There Gritter was the top scorer in 1974/75. In the summer of 1975, the first division club FC Twente Enschede signed him when Johan Zuidema had to end his career for health reasons. In Enschede, Gritter met Jaap Bos , who came from Groningen last year, and remained loyal to the club as a left winger for seven years. In 1978 with fifteen and 1979 with fourteen goals, he was the best shooter on his team. In 1977 he reached the final of the KNVB Cup with the team . Twente beat PEC Zwolle 3-0 and qualified for the European Cup Winners' Cup for the coming season . There Enschede made it to the semi-finals, but was eliminated against the eventual winner RSC Anderlecht . With a total of six goals in the competition, Gritter was the top scorer in the competition, along with the German Ferdinand Keller and the Belgian François Van Der Elst . When Epi Drost left the club in 1980, Twente coach Hennie Hollink Gritter appointed the new team captain. In 1982 his former Danish teammate Michael Birkedahl and his advisor Ton van Dalen lured him to the Danish club Kolding IF . In November 1983 the Dutchman returned to his homeland and signed with the second division Heracles Almelo . In 1985 the club made promotion to the Eredivisie, where Gritter played for a year before ending his active career.
