Havelte is a place and a former municipality in the Dutch province of Drenthe . Together with the villages of Diever , Dwingeloo and Vledder , Havelte forms the municipality of Westerveld . In 2018 the place had 3,735 inhabitants.

history

In 1942 the German occupiers built an airfield in the north of the town. The local farmers were forced to help. It lasted until 1945 before it was destroyed by British and American bombers.

The Johannes Postkazerne, named after the resistance fighter Johannes Post , is located on the site today and is the location of the 43 Gemechaniseerde Brigade of the Dutch Army .

Worth seeing

  • The butterfly farm “Vlinderparadijs Papiliorama” , a glass house with an area of ​​900 m², is well-known and well-visited .
  • Havelte is part of the megalithic burial route that runs across the province of Drenthe. Here on the Havelterberg are the dolmens D53 and D54.
