The Unione Sportiva Gavorrano (also US Gavorrano for short) is a football club from Gavorrano , Province of Grosseto , Italy .

history

The association was founded in 1930 by the chemical and pyrite producer Montecatini (since 1966 Edison ). The club colors are azure and red. The first players were also employees at Montecatini. The club spent most of its club history in amateur and provincial leagues until it rose in the 2006/07 season from the Eccellenza Classifica Girone A Toscana as first in the table in Serie D (fifth division). In the first year you could distance yourself from the relegation places or play-out places by one point. In the second year they reached the play-off games for the fourth division, but failed there after a tie due to fewer goals scored to Nocerina from Nocera Inferiore by the 4-1 defeat on the last day of the play-offs on June 14, 2009. In the The following season 2009/10 the club reached first place in the Serie D Classifica Girone E and rose directly to the fourth-class Lega Pro Seconda Divisione . The team will spend their first season in professional football there in 2010/11 . President Mario Matteini passed away unexpectedly on March 8, and the presidential post has been vacant since then.

Stadion

In the early years, the club played in the Filare district. In 1953 the sports facility was named after the then President Simone Simoni , who died in a traffic accident. In 1964 it was decided to build a new stadium and since June 18, 1967 the club has been playing in the Stadio Romeo Malservisi in Via Morandi 2 (district Bagno di Gavorrano), which offers space for 2,000 visitors. It is named after Romeo Malservisi, a former player of the club and employee of the sponsor Montecatini. For the first professional season in the club's history, the club was almost excluded from the league because the Malservisi stadium does not meet the requirements of the fourth division. Attempts to play in the Stadio Carlo Zecchini of local rivals US Grosseto failed due to the intervention of the Grosseto club president Piero Camilli. Instead of playing in the provincial capital Grosseto, 30 km away, the club finally found a home in Venturina, 40 km away ( Campiglia Marittima , Livorno province ). After the renovation work, the club returned to the home stadium. The first game took place on January 16, 2011 against Carpi Football Club 1909 (2-1).
