The Edison SpA is an Italian power company , based in Milan , which is active in electricity and natural gas operates.

Edison was founded in 1884 as Società generale italiana "Edison" di elettricità , the first chairman of the board (until 1891) was Giuseppe Colombo . From 1966 to 2001 it was part of Montedison . In 2005, Électricité de France took over the company together with Azienda Elettrica Municipale . In 2012, the French took over and the company's shares were delisted.

Corporate activities

Since 2008, the company has been planning to build a natural gas pipeline from Turkey via Greece through the Adriatic to Italy in a consortium with the Greek company DEPA .

The company is also involved in a consortium with the Algerian company Sonatrach in the construction of a natural gas pipeline ( GALSI ) from Algeria to Sicily.
