Azienda Elettrica Municipale ( Aem ) was an Italian utility company based in Milan . The company was listed in the FTSE MIB share index.

On January 1, 2008, Aem merged with the Italian companies AMSA (Azienda Milanese Servizi Ambientali) and ASM Brescia (Azienda Servizi Municipalizzati di Brescia) to form the new company A2A .

Aem was founded in 1910. The company supplied electricity and natural gas. Around 43 percent of Aem was held by the city of Milan and around five percent by Motor-Columbus AG .

Aem operated several power plants, including:

  • In Valtellina, the company owned seven hydropower plants and four water reservoirs.
  • Aem owned a thermoelectric power station in Cassano d'Adda.
