Porto Tolle is a north-eastern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 9415 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Rovigo in Veneto . The municipality is located about 45 kilometers east-southeast of Rovigo and about 57 kilometers east-northeast of Ferrara directly at the mouth of the Po in the Adriatic Sea on the eastern edge of the Polesina . The administrative center of the municipality is in the hamlet of Ca 'Tiepolo . With an area of ​​more than 200 square kilometers, Porto Tolle is one of the (100 area-wise) largest municipalities in Italy.

history

The community is an amalgamation of numerous small towns in the swampy estuary of the Po Delta. The area was under the influence of the Republic of Venice in the Middle Ages .

Porto Tolle has had a partnership with the Croatian municipality of Medulin in the Istria County since 2010 and an intra-Italian partnership with the municipality of Trecate in the province of Novara ( Piedmont ) since 2010 .
