Hans Stille Medal

The Hans Stille Medal is an award for special services in geology or related geosciences . It was awarded annually by the German Society for Geosciences (DGG) until 2014 .

The prize was donated in 1948 and is named after the geologist Hans Stille , the founder of the Berlin Geotectonic Institute , which he headed from 1950 to 1957. In 1948/49 seven well-known geoscientists (all from West Germany ) were honored, from 1950 to 2014 the award was usually only awarded once a year; The award ceremony was discontinued in 2016.
