Wilhelm Kegel

Wilhelm Ottmar Kegel (born May 6, 1890 in Breitscheid near Gießen ; † March 15, 1971 in Brazil ) was a German geologist who dealt with regional geology in Germany and Brazil.

Life

Wilhelm Ottmar Kegel was born as the son of the Breitscheid teacher Wilhelm Reinhard Kegel and his wife Bertha Lina Petry.

During his studies he became a member of the Association of German Students in Marburg . Kegel received his doctorate in geography from the University of Göttingen in 1910 ("The size of the shelf surfaces based on a new calculation"). He then worked from 1912 to 1939 at the Prussian Geological State Institute , where he dealt with the Lahn region ( Gießener blanket ) , among other things . Here he continued the work of Johannes Ahlburg , who died early in 1919 .

He lived in Brazil from 1949, where he was professor of geology at the national initiative for the training of geologists CAGE in Rio de Janeiro (Campanha Nacional de Formação de Geólogos) and geologist at the national ministry of mines (Departamento Nacional de Producao Mineral, DPNM). Wilhelm Kegel researched the geology and tectonics of the northeast of Brazil in particular.
