Jörn Thiede

Jörn Thiede (born April 14, 1941 in Berlin ) is a German geologist , paleontologist and university lecturer .

biography

After studying geology and paleontology from 1962 to 1971 at the Universities of Kiel , Vienna and Buenos Aires , Jörn Thiede took various academic positions from 1967 to 1982 at the Universities of Aarhus (Denmark), Bergen (Norway), Oregon State University (USA) and Oslo (Norway) true. Since the end of 1982 he has held a professorship for historical geology at the University of Kiel, from 1987 to 1997 he was professor for paleo-oceanography at the University of Kiel and founding director of GEOMAR in Kiel. He was director of the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research in Bremerhaven from 1997 to 2007. Since May 2008 he has held a professorship in “Geology and Climate” at the University of Copenhagen (Denmark).
