Johannes Wanner

Johannes Wanner (born April 21, 1878 in Scheidegg ; † July 31, 1959 ibid) was a German geologist who made contributions to geology and paleontology in the Malay Archipelago and especially Timor .

Wanner studied natural sciences and especially geology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and the TH Munich from 1897 to 1901 . After that he worked until 1913 mainly as a petroleum geologist for Shell in the Dutch part of Indonesia, including the Sunda Islands , New Zealand , Algeria and Egypt . He also used it to finance research trips to the Moluccas (1909) and in 1910/11 as the leader of a German expedition to Timor , which he later worked on for years. In 1907 he completed his habilitation at the University of Bonn , where he was professor of applied geology from 1919 to 1946.

In 1948 he received the Hans Stille Medal and in 1947 the Gustav Steinmann Medal . He was an honorary doctorate from the University of Amsterdam . In 1954 he became an honorary member of the Paleontological Society .

He worked with the Freiburg geologist and paleontologist Georg Böhm .
