Dieter K. Fütterer

Dieter Karl Fütterer (born July 7, 1938 in Göttingen ) is a German geologist who primarily deals with marine research and polar research in the Antarctic. He is at the Alfred Wegener Institute and was a professor at the University of Bremen .

Fütterer received his doctorate in 1969 at the University of Göttingen ( The sediments of the northern Adriatic off the coast of Istria ). In 1978 he received his habilitation at the University of Kiel ( The fine fraction (silt) in marine sediments of arid climates: quantitative analysis methods, origin and distribution ).

Fütterer was active on expeditions with the Polarstern in geological exploration of the Antarctic.

In 1983 he founded the Geology of the Polar Regions working group of the German Society for Polar Research with Hubert Miller and Georg Kleinschmidt . and until 1993 he was their spokesman with Hubert Miller. In 1984 her strategy paper Geological Exploration of Arctic Ocean Areas was published.

He is the editor of the journal Polarforschung .

In 2005 he received the Hans Stille Medal and in 2015 the Weyprecht Medal .
