Hans Closs

Hans Closs (born July 1, 1907 , † December 2, 1982 ) was a German geophysicist.

From 1936 to 1939, Closs was involved in the Prussian State Geological Institute and in the geophysical survey of the Reich. Among other things, he carried out gravity measurements and was involved in the discovery of oil and iron ore deposits (north of Braunschweig). After the Second World War he was at what would later become the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Raw Materials , where he headed the geophysics laboratories. In 1972 he retired.

In 1965 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .

In 1973 he received the Hans Stille Medal . In 1981 he became an honorary member of the German Geophysical Society .
